At Playdays Childcare Centre, we understand that the early years of your child's development are the stepping-stones that can be used to create a life full of happiness, love and health!
Each child that we care for is treated as an individual, and our team works to build a positive and empowering learning environment that promotes self-esteem and emphasizes child-selected and child-directed activities.
Our vision is for our school to be recognized as a positive agent of change that benefits our community now and in the future. By creating and maintaining a reachable, durable and accountable Montessori curriculum, we will impact individually and collectively each child under our care and allow them to foster harmony and respect in our life that will carry them into further education.
Our dynamic curriculum is based on core Montessori principles, enhanced by current educational research and includes areas of language, Math, Science, Geography, History, Art, Music and Movement.
This includes oral language development, written expression, reading, the study of grammar, creative dramatics, and children's literature. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters, alphabet cut-outs, and various presentations allowing children to link sounds and letter symbols effortlessly and to express their thoughts through writing.
This includes number recognition, counting, basic operations of addition, multiplication, subtraction and division, squares and cubes, four-digit numbers and the decimal system. The emphasis is on understanding the concepts as opposed to learning by rote. This is achieved through the use of authentic Montessori materials, that were designed to capture the interest of the learning child.
This includes classification of objects, learning about the parts of different living things, life cycles of organisms, the human body, the solar system and also performing hands-on experiments.
These activities will allow children to develop their basic understandings of geography, history, and life sciences.
These are important elements of our integrated cultural curriculum.
This area of learning allows the child to work on activities that help with fine motor skills which prepares the child’s hand for writing and gripping pencils. Also included are independence-building activities like care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and coordination of physical movement. Food preparation is a part of the Practical Life curriculum.
This area enables each child to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, color, pitch, etc. Visual discrimination mastered in this area helps the child to master the nuances of reading, for e.g. to differentiate between the letters d and b.
This is an integral part of Montessori education. Children are taught and encouraged to indulge in peaceful activities as they work and play with their friends.
We know that choosing a child care facility is an extremely important decision, based on many different factors.
