The Playdays Childcare Center practises Montessori principles and is an independent centre for children aged 18 months to 6 years, covering the areas of Toddlers and Pre-school and is approved by the Ministry of Education.
The Montessori education system is based on Dr Maria Montessori’s scientific observations in which she discovered that learning is an exciting process of discovery for the child and that we should celebrate and harness each child’s innate desire to become a competent, independent individual. Hence our childcare motto “let your star shine with Playdays Childcare Centre!”
Our program fosters the development of responsibility, collaboration, co-operation and an enjoyment of learning. Specially designed Montessori materials are integrated with other developmentally appropriate activities to provide each child at Playdays Childcare Centre with progressive learning in the areas of:
● Practical life
● Sensorial
● Mathematics
● Language Development
● Cultural Activities.
The Montessori method of education centres on developing the child’s whole self and allowing a child to lead their own development. Respecting the child is at the core of this approach.
A Montessori environment is carefully planned and prepared to meet the needs of the child, and children have liberty within that environment to choose materials based on interest and ability. We do this by offering a wide variety of equipment, tools and materials for them to choose whatever feels right for them.
The aims of our curriculum are as follows:
● Each child will be seen as an active participant in learning; allowed to move about and respectfully explore the classroom environment; the teacher is an instructional facilitator and guide.
● We will create and maintain a carefully prepared learning environment and curriculum which encourages the development of internal self-discipline and intrinsic motivation.
● Sustain a three-year span of age grouping, three-year cycles allow teacher, students, and parents to develop supportive, collaborative and trusting relationships.
● Each child’s learning pace will be internally determined, and children will be allowed to spot their own errors through feedback and they will be viewed as part of the learning process.
● Learning is reinforced internally through the child’s own repetition of an activity and internal feelings of success.
● Report each child’s progress is through multiple formats: conferences, narrative reports, checklists and portfolio of student’s work.
We're committed to cultivating global, happy citizens who know who they are, understand their gifts and approach life with wonder, joy, humility, and a profound desire to share!
Our practise is focused on supporting the growth of children's minds, bodies and souls through an integrated, differentiated curriculum rooted in the Montessori tradition. By placing equal emphasis on all 6 Pillars of Growth, children can continue to grow as balanced, realized, happy humans.
Students spend time each morning in a Montessori-based ‘Grow Cycle’ engaging in a process of self-construction through independent and collaborative interaction with materials, exploring subjects such as math, science, social studies and language arts.
Students will learn how to respect and engage their body as a tool for increasing wellness and happiness. Children will experience various physical practices such as yoga, dance, ballet and gymnastics.
Drawing from wisdom cultures around the world, students nurture their connection with the planet and all living things. Our practise consists of lunchtime mindful eating and an end of day gratitude circle.
Our Conscious Creators program consists of teachers’ one-on-one attention to encourage children to try challenging things for their activities and create something new according to their own pace.
Creative Expression is viewed as a core curriculum. Students will engage in two creative classes per day alternating between Music/dance and Arts/Crafts.
Additionally, music and dance will be interspersed throughout their schedule becoming an integral part of our children's daily experience.
